A small weekend programming project has a free<strong>web app<\/strong> result, which under <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lernsoftware-mathematik.de\/zahlen\">www.lernsoftware-mathematik.de\/zahlen<\/a> The app can be accessed here. Children can interactively explore the decimal number system, arrange numbers, and group and ungroup them. Children can create place value representations using simple touch or mouse gestures:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Tap<\/strong> produces a single (blue dot)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Draw a line<\/strong> creates a ten (green line)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Draw a rectangle<\/strong> creates a hundred (red square)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>thousands<\/strong> are represented as a purple row of 10 hundreds<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The special: <strong>Using multiple fingers simultaneously<\/strong> Multiple shapes can be created at once \u2013 ideal for the clever, bundled placement of quantities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The most important functions<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Automatic and manual bundling<\/h6>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A central concept in understanding place value is the <strong>Bundling principle<\/strong>: 10 ones become 1 tens, 10 tens become 1 hundred, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The app offers two modes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Automatically<\/strong>As soon as there are 10 elements of a particular position, they are automatically grouped together to form the next higher position. The child can observe this grouping principle directly while placing the elements and be encouraged to reflect on it through targeted analytical questions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Manually<\/strong>The child decides when to bundle. Non-canonical representations (e.g., 13 lines) are also possible. <strong>Driving over 10 identical elements<\/strong> These are gathered together with the finger. <strong>long press<\/strong> When an element is grouped into a single smaller unit, it is unbundled into the next smaller unit. By swiping up or down at any position, the number or individual place values can be changed \u2013 the display adjusts automatically. This makes it possible to experiment and observe the effect of changes from the symbolic to the iconic level directly. Ideally, this should also be accompanied by appropriate research tasks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Speech output and AI tutor<\/h6>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <strong>Talk button<\/strong> reads out the current number \u2013 including its partial breakdown into thousands, hundreds, tens and ones.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An optional <strong>AI voice assistant<\/strong> It can be activated to accompany children as they explore, ask questions, and encourage experimentation. This voice assistant is experimental and subject to change \u2013 it is being used for testing within the PRIMA-AI project and is welcome to try it out. When requested, it has access to background information and the current app configuration and is designed to provide relevant help and suggestions for exploration.
