In January 2026, the first Math Day took place at FAMS in Langenargen \u2013 a cooperation project between the primary school and the Weingarten University of Education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Together with my colleagues Ellen Komm and Tobias Huhmann, master's students designed and implemented various learning stations. Third and fourth graders were able to explore mathematical questions through hands-on, exploratory, and creative activities at these stations. Numerous digitally supported learning environments and apps, currently under development and being tested for the first time, were also included, such as the learning game Kalkulino, a new app on the topic of points in time and time spans, and other new digital learning apps. More information about these apps will be available here soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One station also dealt with a critical and reflective examination of AI as a support tool for mathematics lessons. Children called for a specially developed [tool\/method - context needed]. Children's chatbot<\/a> They tackled mathematical problems they found "difficult" and tested whether the AI always calculated correctly. To the children's surprise, the results were sometimes sobering, demonstrating that mathematical skills remain essential for critically evaluating AI results and that they cannot blindly rely on AI solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The children's high level of motivation was particularly gratifying \u2013 and it was also a valuable practical experience for our students on their path to becoming teachers. A follow-up project is already planned, possibly with other primary schools in the Weingarten region!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
