A practice app for exploring the hundreds table.
The learning game “The Number Hunt” helps you practice number comprehension and addition.
In addition to the educational game, there are iOS-App one AndroidApps (unfortunately not available at the moment), a Browser version (only works with a functioning Flash plug-in), as well as the download for Windows and Mac!
Description of the app
Place the corresponding number on the hundred chart by clicking on the appropriate number. The faster you calculate, the more points you get.
The game is over when you reach the circled target number.
You can change the target number yourself by shaking the device or tapping a number before starting the game.
Have fun playing!
Didactic notes
The learning game is about developing strategies for adding quickly – even when going beyond ten – as a visual image by cleverly exploiting number relationships and the structure of the tens in the hundred field. For example, the task “+9” can either be solved by counting on, which takes a long time, or the strategy “10-1” can be chosen, i.e. one row down (+10) and one back (-1). The learning game aims to help develop such number relationships and calculation strategies on a visual level and to provide incentives for this. However, some children have difficulty developing such strategies and stick to counting on. They need help and targeted incentives to initiate such effective strategies. This can be done by discussing or presenting clever strategies to each other, but above all by demonstrating and observing. It is helpful to support the strategies linguistically and thus make them understandable (e.g. “+9, one line down is + 10, then I have to go back one so that it is 9” or “46 + 7, 4 to 50, then 3 remain, so 53”).
Before children play this game, orientation exercises on the hundreds chart should have been carried out and basic number decompositions in the number range up to 10 should be largely automated.
